Need trust account report filter option that excludes inactive matters before the designated date range but includes matters that were active at some point in the date range even if they are no longer active at time report is run.

I want to run a report for the last 6 months showing all activity in trust.  Incredibly, I can't do it the way it's set up.  I have to include inactive because much of the activity that occurred in the last 6 months is from cases that are CURRENTLY inactive, though they were NOT inactive when the activity occurred 3 or 4 months ago.  To capture that information, I currently have to include inactive, which pulls in ALL inactive cases, even cases for which there has not been any activity during the last 6 months, or several years in fact.  I can't get rid of those long-since inactive cases by excluding cases with zero balance because the recently inactivated cases in which there was a lot of activity only 3 months ago, which I want to capture, are also zero balance now.  The problem is that the active/inactive selection forces you to choose as of the current date (date of report).  What I want to do is surely the most common thing one would want to do:  That is, I'd like to make a report that shows everything that happened in that account for the past 6 months.  If something happened, then by definition that client WAS active when it happened, even if the client is not active now.  So there are lot so clients who are PRESENTLY zero balance and inactive, but if they had activity during the last 6 months (or whatever my date range is for the search) obviously I still want to see it, because the point is the see everything in that date range.  This is frustrating because it's the most common and useful kind of report that you're preventing the user from generating.

Thank you for your suggestion. The inactive matters that do not have any transactions in the selected date range should not show up on the report. Only those inactive matters that either have a non-zero previous balance or a trust transaction in the selected date range should appear.

Matters that were inactivated more than 6 months ago should not be included in the report as they do not meet any of the above conditions, i.e.,

    1. they will not have transactions during the last 6 months.

    2. their balance as of the start date of the report will be 0.

Let me know if I am missing something here.

    Thank you!
