Ability to create time entries for Clients designated as Prospect

This would be useful if attorneys meet with potential clients and perform research/minimal work and want to keep track of their time prior to formal engagement. Our attorneys presently put those time entries under a "Miscellaneous" client/matter number and later we have to transfer the time entries to the client/matter number if we are retained. If we could put it under the number designated to a potential client and then simply change the client status to Active from Prospect that would help in not missing past time entries that were not transferred over from the Miscellaneous matter. It could be useful for conflict checks also.

Often - weekly - with cold calls and consultations that result in our firm being retained.

Yes, we’d like to put in time for a prospective client. I realize we can mark it “Prospect” but as you point out, time entries can’t be added under a matter with that status. Presently, we put all time for a potential client (usually 2-3 entries) in a General number and move the entries if we are retained. If we are not retained, we delete the time entries.

Thanks Annette for your suggestion. Is the intent here to bill this time once the Client becomes active?

On a side note, you do have the option to set the Status to 'Prospect' for a client but the system will not allow you to record time until the Client becomes Active.
