When LEDES billing is not used, all time entry descriptions are neat and pleasing to the eyes. When it is used, however, the time description continues to run into the other columns (or what would be columns) which makes it more difficult to read.

Thank you for your suggestion. LEDES files are used for electronic billing and are not human readable by design.
You can still make them appear as standard excel files by using the 'Text to Column' feature in excel. Just remove the first line that mentions the LEDES format and specify | as the delimiter. Refer to the following link for detailed instructions on how to use this feature.
